Square-Enix may have a little more to do with the world ofWakfuthan just publishing the French-developed MMORPG that is set for open beta later this fall. During the Anime Expo panel “An Introduction to the World ofWAKFU” Square-Enix producer Franko Fonseca mentioned that Wakfu’s cute little chicks called Tofu’s resemblance toFinal Fantasy’savian friends is no accident.
“Talking to the artists over at Ankama, they were inspired by the Chocobos,” Fonseca said. “For the design guysFinal Fantasy Tacticsdid play a really big part in their first titleDofusand [was] also something they really looked at when they were coming out and deciding what they wanted to do.”
The closed beta forWakfuwill be open for enrollment through the duration of Anime Expo. If youhaven’t checked outWakfuyet, now’s your chance as registration closes Monday, July 4 at 11:59 p.m.
