If you like everything aboutStarfieldexcept the ship-to-ship combat, then Automated Ship Turrets might just be the thing you need. These bad boys will throw volleys of doom at your enemies with zero input or control from you. Interestingly, these can be a fantastic option for either the very worst or the very best Starfield pilots.

How to get Automated Ship Turrets in Starfield

You can buy Ship Turrets from theShip Services Techniciansthat can be found in various starports throughoutStarfield. Visit any technician and ask them to view and modify your ships. Then select the Ship Builder option and choose to Add a new part to your ship. Navigate to the weapons tabs and then scroll until you find a suitable weapon withTurretin the name.

Now, you need to add the turret to a suitable part of the ship. You will need to be careful about placement because where you put the turret will dictate the line of sight for the weapon. You should also consider that the parts you will be able to get from the Ship Technicians will depend on a number of factors.

Some ships come with auto-turrets already

One important thing to consider is that some ships in Starfield will come with turrets already installed. The best example of this is the dreaded Narwhal thatcan be purchased from Taiyo Astroneering. The Narwhal is a monster, and the multiple auto-turrets that it comes with will do considerable damage to enemy ships that are near you.

How to use auto turrets

The main thing to consider with your turrets is where you have placed them on your ship. If they are on top, you will need an enemy to be slightly above you. If they are on the bottom, the enemy will need to be slightly below you. Once you keep that simple rule in mind, then your turrets are going to do their job and automatically track and fire at any enemy within range.

They won’t do as much damage as standard weapons that usually end up in the forward-facing slots on your ship, but they do have an almost constant uptime because you don’t need to worry about keeping any kind of reticle on the enemy ship. I would strongly suggest putting them on top of your ship because it is much easier to chase a ship and keep your speed down so that the ship you are tracking has a higher rate of turn than you will, keeping them above your ship’s horizon line.

And that’s it. Your turrets will just pummel anything around you, causing havoc for any ship foolish enough to mess with you.
