The game has a big SNK World Championship 2025 qualifier at Evo Las Vegas 2025. The competitive excitement and the soon-coming release of Ken from Street Fighter bring new hope for FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (CotW).
However great a game this new release is, FATAL FURY CotW has been experiencing two strong issues.
After the initial hype, many in the fighting games community (FGC) returned to their main titles, and the player count is not too prominent. This sure can be fixed by top-level esports excitement. If a game is wonderful at a big stage, players are eager to experience it on their own.
The meta is not really balanced for FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves. Sure, it’s not broken either, but seeing the amount of Billies and Kains at large events is kind of disturbing. Ken Maister from Street Fighter joins the roster, and he brings the hope for more diversity in the competitive matchups.
SNK does a great job of keeping FATAL FURY CotW at the top fighting games esports. They’ve organized the World Championship with a1.5 million prize pool. The game is part of the Esports World Cup at least up to 2027. Even Ronaldo is here to support the fire! FATAL FURY Evo 2025 is a strong part of this pretty good plan.

The collaboration of these two legendary fighting games is absolutely epic! Terry and Mai are part of theStreet Fighter 6 roster, and they are the first-ever guest characters in the main series. Ken and Chun-Li are coming to FATAL FURY as part of Season 1 DLC. Ken enters City of the Wolves on Aug. 3. Yep, he’s available right after the tournament!

GO1 is the FATAL FURY CotW Evo 2025 Champion!
From a totally dominant beginning to almost losing the grand final — GO1 went through quite a challenge at this tournament! He played Kain for the most part of the final brackets. This character helped GO1 send KojiKOG and ET to the losers without dropping even one game.
ET recovered from that loss brilliantly. In the losers final, he adapted to another Kain player, Fenritti, defeated him, and advanced to the grand final.
The momentum was on ET’s side, and switching for Marco did not work for GO1. ET reset the brackets, and he looked the same strong in the decisive match. With chaotic movement and almost mashing buttons on Hokutomaru, ET brought the match to the final game.
Still, GO1 found openings in this crucial moment and delivered the final blow!
As GO1 has already qualified for the SNK World Championship 2025 Finals, the spot goes to ET.
In general, it was great to see a somewhat bigger variety of characters at the FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves tournament. The fast-paced action sure is intense, and having different archetypes on the fighting ground makes the esports show more exciting.
The SNK World Championship 2025 has no leaderboard, so only qualifier winners can advance to the Finals event. The next big event for FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is VSFighting XIII, from Aug. 15 to Aug. 17.
