The Guard’s former roster has found a new home, as G2 Esports brings them on board and becomes a part of VCT Americas in 2024.

The speculation can end. G2 Esports are now in the VALORANT Champions Tour, taking over the VCT spot once promised to The Guard. The entire situation had the community up in arms, on the edge of their seats, and feeling all kinds of emotions.

Riot says The Guard players are now free agents and may find a suitable org for VCT 2024

The Guard’s players are now free agents and have been given the chance to find an organization to represent in the VCT for 2024.

The Guard as an organization failed to meet a deadline set by Riot Games to finalize their ascension. That left their players confused and ultimately let down. Riot initiallystated an 11th team would not enterthe VCT. After community support for the players, Riot reverted their decision if the former roster could find a suitable organization, which they certainly did.

VALORANT welcomes G2 Esports as the 11th team of VCT Americas 2024

With The Guard out, most of its players have moved on to G2 Esports and will represent them in the 2024 and 2025 VCT. All except Ian “tex” Botsch, who did not remain a part of the package deal with his teammates as they searched for a new organization.

The core four and their coach are who remain:

That leaves one player missing from the starting five. Who could it be? G2 Esports still has Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan under contract. He played for them through NA Challengers, but now acts as a streamer rather than competitive player for the organization.

Or G2 could spend the time left until VCT 2024 begins to find a suitable fifth. That’s where new speculation can start to take shape. At the end of the day, any of The Guard’s former roster could have found success elsewhere. It’s great to see the majority of them stick together and slot into G2.
