Some allegedHogwarts Legacy 2leaks are now making their rounds, and if they are true, fans can expect multiplayer and live-service elements to be added to the highly anticipated sequel. Publisher Warner Bros. has previously established a wish forHogwarts Legacy 2to have live-service elements. While all the rumors aboutHogwarts Legacy 2are unconfirmed right now, the most recent WB-published AAA release,Mortal Kombat 1, was full of microtransactions, making a lot of fans concerned about the future of all WB-owned franchises.

As reported byComicbook, several new details aboutHogwarts Legacy 2may have been leakedby several job posting descriptions at developer Avalanche Software and publisher WB. Candidates (and the people eventually hired for these roles) will allegedly work on an“online multiplayer RPG.“The Lead Narrative Designer position posted onWarner Bros' website says candidates can expect to“craft narratives that adapt to multiplayer frameworks.“Avalanche Software is also aiming to have“dynamic dialog that responds to player actions and interactions in real-time multiplayer settings.“None of these details have been confirmed to apply toHogwarts Legacy 2.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Be A Live-Service Multiplayer Game

It Could Be A Stark Departure From The First Game

As far as we know, Avalanche Software is not working on another game besidesHogwarts Legacy 2. While there’s no way to know for sure, with the locations listed as a hybrid role with on-site work in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Avalanche Software is located,it seems likely that these job descriptions are indeed forHogwarts Legacy 2. What these alleged multiplayer elements will be and how the live-service model will be implemented remain to be seen, but recent issues likeGame of Thrones: Kingsroad’s monetizationpaint a worrying picture.

Previously, WB stated that its gaming division would befocused on four major franchises moving forward:Harry Potter,Game of Thrones, the DC universe, andMortal Kombat. If the job listings do apply toHogwarts Legacy 2, the shift wouldn’t be surprising, given WB’s recent game releases. At the same time, it will likely result in plenty of fan frustrations, asHogwarts Legacyis a single-player RPG that managed to sell over 34 million copies. TheHogwarts Legacyplanned DLC was canceledearlier this year, so it seems all focus is now on the sequel.

Our Take: These Leaks Seem Likely Given WB’s Record

But Nothing Has Been Confirmed Yet

Since these leaks are coming from official job descriptions for employment at Avalanche Software,it seems likely that these leaks about multiplayer and live-service are indeed true, though it’s still currently unconfirmed. Under a different publishing company, a lot ofHarry Potterfans might be excited to have multiplayer in theHogwarts Legacysequel, opening up opportunities like playing Quidditch together or co-op spell team-ups against dark wizards. With the problems present in recent Warner Bros. releases, however, fans will likely be nervous for the sequel.

Still, we don’t have any concrete details aboutHogwarts Legacy 2other than its existence, and it’s fully possible that WB’s live-service model isn’t as aggressive as its recent titles, especially given how much of a big hit the game was as a single-player RPG. With jobs still being posted for various roles, it may be a while beforeHogwarts Legacy 2releases. A lot could change between now and that eventual date, but it seems like fans can expect multiplayer of some sort in the sequel.
