Honkai Star Rail Launch characters
If you joined Honkai Star Rail a bit later or just want a bit of nostalgia, you might be curious which characters were available at launch.
There were a total of23 characters available at Honkai Star Rail’s launch, including Trailblazer and characters that could be pulled through the first Warp banners.
In version 1.0, players could unlock Asta, Dan Heng, Herta, March 7th, Natasha and Serval for free by completing the main story. This granted you a character of each element except Imaginary and Quantum.

How to get a free 5-star character in Honkai Star Rail
DId you know you can unlock a free 5-star character in Honkai Star Rail? All you need is 300 Warps completed.

5-star characters available at launch (Version 1.0)
There were a total of nine 5-star characters which could be pulled for at launch. Four of the 5-stars were well-known characters from MiHoYo’s previous Honkai titles; Bronya, Himeko, Seele and Welt. You can read more about them in ourHonkai Star Rail crossover characterspiece.
Gender, Element and rarity
At the start of the game players had a choice between a male or female version of the leader character known as Trailblazer. The male version is called Caelus, the female version is called Stelle. However, neither of these names are subsequently mentioned in-game.
Of the 23 launch characters, there were only seven playable male characters, eight if you include Caelus (Male Trailblazer). There were 14 4-star characters and 9 five-star characters. Ice and Lightning were the most common elements, with 5 characters for each. Meanwhile, Welt was the only Imaginary character.
