Fantastic Four#31 reveals that the team as a whole are losing their powers one by one. In one pivotal moment, the Human Torchbegins to plummet from the sky when his ‘Flame On’ ability suddenly turns into a ‘Flame Off.’ Fortunately, Mr. Fantastic catches Johnny just in time. Since the incident happens in front of a crowd, Johnny grows concerned that their enemies might catch on, saying,“…we’ve got a reputation to maintain. I don’t want our enemies knowing we’re down to the Fantastic Two.”To save face,he asks his sister to drop her soundproof force fieldso he can loudly claim that his power loss was just an act, a trick to fool their adversary.

While this moment provides some comic relief, with Johnny dramatically shouting,“I still have my powers, of course! And I always will!!!”it also serves as direct confirmation that Sue has sound-related abilities tied to her force fields. Although some fans may have already assumed or suspected this,Fantastic Four#31 finally makes it explicit: Sue can block and dampen sound with her force fields. Her invisibility already makes her one of the most stealth-capable and skilled heroes in the Marvel Universe, but now, with confirmed sound suppression, she’s even more stealth-savvy than ever.

The comic quickly glosses over the fact that Sue’s force fields are soundproof, offering little detail or explanation. However, it appears that her sound-related abilities are directly tied to her force fields, indicating that she has a specific type of sonokinesis: defensive sonokinesis or sound dampening. Given this connection, it’s unlikely she possesses full sonokinesis, which would allow complete control over sound waves, beyond just dampening with her force fields. While there are some clear limitations toInvisible Woman’snew power, it is still an immensely cool addition to her powerset arsenal.
