Jon Cryer, who played Lex Luthor in the Arrowverse, once pitched aLegion of Doomseries to the network. Unfortunately, it looks like the network passed on theDCproject, leaving Cryer to wonder what could have been. The CWverse, also known as the Arrowverse, encompasses severalDCshows on the CW’s roster. Some series likeSupergirlare set outside this universe but were featured in crossovers with other shows during events such as “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Cryer portrayed the main Arrowverse’s version of Lex Luthor.RELATED:Gotham Knights Casts Ethan Embry And Sunny Mabrey As Couple With Batman TiesIn a tweet, Cryer revealed that he had previously pitched theLegion of Doomseries. The actor had quoted a fan who praised the Arrowverse for its depiction of the formation of the Justice League. “After the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover I pitched Warner Bros on a Legion of Doom series,” Cryer wrote. “Wasn’t meant to be, I guess.”

HadLegion of Doommoved forward, it might not have lasted long. Many DC television shows, such asTitansandDoom Patrol, have been cancelled, and the Arrowverse is essentially over. The future of DC is in flux right now, so a series centered around the Legion of Doom might have been too niche to survive. On the other hand, it could have been a hit.

DC TV cancellations might not be because of the higher-ups at DC Studios. DC Studios co-CEOJames Gunn was not behind theDoom PatrolandTitanscancellations, and the CW’s recent cancellations may be due to their acquisition by Nexstar. If that’s the case, nothing might have savedLegion of Doom.

As for Cryer, his future as Lex Luthor is uncertain.Superman and Loiscast Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor, and while that series continues going strong, it does not exist within the Arrowverse (despite a few crossovers), and the creatives behind the show felt the need to cast a new face for Luthor. Perhaps Cryer is right: the project “wasn’t meant to be.”
