Mae Martin andParvati Shallow’s relationship is “an in flux situation.”
In January 2025, Shallow told PEOPLE that dating has been “the most challenging area of my life" and is admittedly unsure of what she wants.
However, the four-timeSurvivorplayer, who began dating the Canadian comedian inearly 2023, toldAdvocatein January 2024 that she’d found true happiness in her relationship with Martin.
“I’m just really happy and this relationship has a healthy emotional, physical and spiritual connection,” she said. “I tell all my friends to be queer!”

They started dating in March 2023

In late 2023, Shallow revealed her relationship with the comedian on Instagram ahead of her appearance onThe Traitorsseason 2, simultaneously coming out as queer.
“We’re here. We’re queer. Happy new year,” theSurvivorlegend wrote onInstagramunder a photo of the couple posing in a photo booth strip.
“Love you both! so happyyyyyyyy! Truly icons,”Las Culturistaspodcast co-host Matt Rogers commented on the post, while author Evan Ross Katz seemingly hinted at setting them up, commenting, “A perfect pair. Honored to have played the tiniest role in this epic link-up. Love you both.”
Shallow revealed in an interview with Advocate that she and Martin started dating eight months prior to the announcement, in March 2023, but she was “happy” taking time to grow their relationship before making things public.
“My journey is very different than most people who are out. We’ve been dating since March and our relationship has moved forward really beautifully. I’m super happy,” she said.

The couple kept their relationship private until Shallow shared a series of pictures with Martin and her family onInstagramin November 2023. Though she officially confirmed that they were an item the following month, the cryptic caption and photos of Martin led to speculation that they were in a romantic relationship.
“Some people come into your life at the perfect and most unexpected time,” Shallow wrote in the caption. “They see you, they love you right where you are, they make you laugh so hard you cry. They remind you that even when it’s hard, life can be a really beautiful journey.”

Before Shallow began dating Martin, she was married to fellowSurvivorcontestantJohn Fincher. He appeared onSurvivor: Samoain 2009 and began dating the four-time player in 2014.Shallow and Fincher got engagedin January 2017 and wed later that year.
They welcomed their daughter, Alma, in 2018. However, three years later,Shallow filed for divorcein August 2021 due to “irreconcilable differences.”
TheSurvivorwinner has said she is “grateful” for the lessons she learned during her divorce, which forced her to be more receptive to change.
“Going through my divorce really shattered a bunch of paradigms for me,” Shallow told Advocate. “It made me much more open-minded in many ways and available to very new and different possibilities in my life.”

While they confirmed their relationship in late 2023, Martin had been a fan of Shallow’s long before they met. Martin shared that they were enjoying watching her onSurvivor: Winners at Warin a post onXin 2020.
“I love Parvati and Boston Rob fromSurvivorso much that I just cried about it,” they wrote.
However, for Shallow, the all-winners season was the hardest because of the emotions she was navigating after welcoming her child.
“I was really at a place in my life that I wasn’t able to separate that and put a wall up or a shield up around that vulnerability like I have been able to do in the past,” she added.

Shallow and Martin took the next step in their relationship when they blended their families and moved in together in early 2024.
“This one right here with me and Mae in the kitchen, my daughter took that photo,” Shallow said.
Shallow said her relationship with Martin is “in flux”
The couple, who have been together for nearly two years, might be on the outs. Shallow told PEOPLE in January 2025 that their relationship is currently “an in flux situation.”
She continued, “I’ve been through trying to fit myself into the structures of society and the definitions of dating and the definitions of relationships. I’m traveling so much and having these really fun, amazing adventures, so I’m in this place of asking myself, what do I really want?”
