A man says hisfriend is upsetwith the choices he made while he was dog-sitting her pet.
In aposton Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, the 20-year-old wrote that he was watching his friend Alma’s dog “while she was away for a week to see her parents” when thecanine got sick.
“On day three, her dog, Cherry, started vomiting and refused to eat,” the man wrote, then detailing that Alma “was at a festival” and “didn’t pick up,” despite his attempts to contact her.
Noting that he “panicked,” the Redditor said he “took Cherry to the emergency vet, where they diagnosed her with a blockage and did a $1,400 surgery.”
Cherry, the man said, is “fine now,” but when Alma returned home from her trip, she was not okay with the actions he took.

“When Alma got back, I gave her the bill, explaining it was an emergency and that was my only option,” the man wrote.
He said, however, that Alma “completely blew up, saying she’d never have approved such an expensive option and would’ve waited to see if Cherry improved.”
“She says she’s broke and can’t pay me back,” the man added.

“Alma is now ignoring me and told everyone we know that I ‘forced her into debt,’ " he added.

One other said, “You did the right thing. She shouldn’t be a pet owner if she can’t pay for emergency vet bills.”
Other Redditors, meanwhile, pointed out that Alma would likely be more upset had her dog died while in her friend’s care.
“She’d be crying about how you murdered her dog if you’d taken the ONLY other humane route,” one commenter stated. “You absolutely did the right thing. $1,400 isn’t even particularly expensive for that kind of surgery.”
