Many have assumed that Electronic Arts sanctioned this endeavor, although there is absolutely no proof of that and it could easily be random hackers looking to spread anarchy.Modern Warfare 3‘sofficial siteis actually part of callofduty.com, which hasn’t been screwed with. Nevertheless, the intent of the prank is clear.
This is yet another chapter in a saga that has seenBattlefield 3intrinsically linked withModern Warfare 3, and I don’t think it’s helping DICE’s title. Just like Electronic Arts’ constant comparison with Infinity Ward’s game, all this serves to do is make people think of MW3 when they think ofBattlefield 3.
I have little doubt that, if EA didn’t secretly greenlight this trick, a fan ofBattlefieldcertainly did. Unfortunately, I just don’t think stunts like this are helping to do anything more than promoteCall of Duty.
