Recently, it was announced by Ubisoft thatRainbow Six Siegewould receive asignificant price hike. This hike redubbed the standard version of the game as the Advanced edition and increased the price tag from $40 to $60. The Gold edition also increased to $89.99, and the Complete edition rose to $129.99.
Needless to say, this was not a popular decision forRainbow Six Siege,as the fanbase was rattled. In response to the customer backlash, Ubisoft has repealed the price of the rebranded Advanced edition, stating it will be “keeping the standard edition in the store at the current price.” However, the price hikes for the Gold and Complete edition still stand, but these changes do not go into effect until June 16, 2025.

Ubisoft’s official announcement stated, “Following Thursday’s announcement, we have seen the frustration from our current players rise to the top of the discussion. For our newcomers and those of you concerned about introducing your friends to the game, we will be keeping the Standard Edition in the store at the current price.”
Typically, a game in its third year has its price dropped, not raised, but if anything, this move by Ubisoft speaks to the overwhelming popularity of the title. With itsYear 3 season passnow available, hopefully this (attempted) move doesn’t hurt sales; after all, Ubisoft did listen to its fanbase and back down on a highly-controversial decision, at least for the standard version.
AsRainbow Six Siegemoves into its new year of content, information is coming this February at the Six Invitational 2018 in Montreal. With the teases of Operation Chimera andthe Outbreak mode,Rainbow Six Siegemay maintain the surging popularity that has propelled it into its third year of content. At the very least, for newcomers to the game, the standard price tag remains $40.
Rainbow Six Siegeis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One
