Warning! SPOILERS For And Just Like That Season 3, Episode 10, “Better Than Sex”
And Just Like Thatfinally set the stage for Kim Cattrall to return as her iconic Samantha Jones character, but it’s a wasted opportunity now thatSex and The City’s revival show will end. Ahead ofAnd Just Like Thatseason 3’s conclusion, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced HBO would close out the season with a two-part series finale.

Three of the four centralSex and the Citycharactersreunited inAnd Just Like That’s cast, but one has been missing from the revival’s events. Cattrall didn’t return as Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) go-to gal pal, and fans have claimed it was a mistake not to include Samantha Jones since. Sadly, the route for her return arrives too late.
Duncan’s Return To London Opened The Door For Samantha Jones To Appear Again
Duncan Reeves Is Returning To Samantha Jones' City
There’s a straightforward way for Samantha Jones to return now, sinceCarrie has a direct connection to London after “Better Than Sex.”Bradshaw revealed at the beginning ofAnd Just Like Thatthat Samantha had moved to England, potentially as a direct result of the beef between the friends about public relations for Carrie’s upcoming book.
The friends texted back and forth in the show’s freshman run, though their connection was doubtlessly strained. However,Kim Cattrall’s cameo at the end ofAnd Just Like Thatseason 2brought Samantha back intoSex and the City’s fold. Jones hopped on a video call with Carrie, revealing she wanted to attend her“last supper”but wouldn’t make it.
Cattrall’s season 2 cameo seemed to suggest that Samantha Jones was primed to make future appearances, the scene suggesting a sort of ending toKim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker’s feudthat doubtlessly contributed to Samantha’s absence. However, there was sadly no word about bringing Samantha Jones on again forAnd Just Like Thatseason 3.
That said, the revival show cleared a path for Samantha to return withAnd Just Like Thatseason 3’s new character, Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake). The writer hailed from London, so Carrie textedSamantha Jones inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 5, to get the scoop on her new neighbor, the conversation subtly bringing Jones into the story.
After “Better Than Sex,” Carrie’s connection to Duncan Reeves is more than just curiosity. The neighbors make love in episode 9, and Reeves reveals afterward that he’s returning to London. If the show wasn’t ending, Bradshaw could follow Duncan to England inAnd Just Like Thatseason 4, creating the perfect moment for Carrie and Samantha’s reunion.
And Just Like That’s Cancellation Wastes A Chance For Samantha Jones To Fully Return In London
Samantha & Carrie Could Reunite If Bradshaw Visited London
SinceAnd Just Like Thatseason 3’s two-part finale would be the revival’s final chapter, the choice puts to rest any hopes that fans would get a glimpse of how Carrie and Samantha’s friendship has changed. It’s especially disappointing to know that we won’t get to see Samantha Jones now that she has the perfect opportunity to return.
InAnd Just Like Thatseason 1’s finale, Carrie meets up with Samantha for a drink while she’s in Europe to dump Big’s (Chris Noth) ashes over the bridge in Paris. Sadly, we never get to see that moment on-screen, withAnd Just Like That’s cancelation effectively ruling out an opportunity to recreate the moment with Kim Cattrall.
