Absolutely! Here’s how to tell if they’re done being useful
While many games offer up “key items” that serve to unlock areas in a critical path, most of them don’t allow you to sell said items.TheResident Evil 4remakedoes! Don’t be afraid to toss unwanted key items for some cash.
First up, do not sell small keys
Small keys will open up boxes filled with treasures and all sorts of items throughout the game, and serve as kind of a “catch-all” key: similar to consumable lockpicks in some games.
Do not sell your small keys to The Merchant for a few thousand Pesetas: anything you can get from a container that a small key will open up will outweigh that short term cash injection.
The ResidentEvil 4remake in particular has a core mechanicthat encourages the selling of key item keys. You’ll be able to sell them directly to The Merchant once they’re used up and have fulfilled their purpose in unlocking everything they can (like this Insignia Key, that only unlocks certain story doors).
Do do this, you’ll find The Merchant throughout the game world, then go to the “sell” menu, and select the key in question. In the image above we’re ditching the “Insignia Key” in Chapter 4 of the game, where it’s no longer of use. It nets me 2000 free Pesetas (gold) for my trouble, and there’s no downside to doing it.
How to tell if a key is used up
