Donk and Spirit begin their charge for Austin against the Aussies at FlyQuest at BLAST Spring Rivals.

BLAST Rivals Spring has arrived, and kicking off the group stage is a bit of a lopsided matchup. World-beaters Spirit are back from a short hiatus, taking on Australian outfit FlyQuest in the best-of-three opener.

It was allDanil “donk” Kryshkovetsand Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov in the group stage opener as Spirit wiped FlyQuest out 2-0 (13-2, 13-9). FlyQuest took a risk by picking Mirage for the opener — a mapcaptain Joshua “INS” Potter told esports.ggwould be a focus of theirs going forward.

Early rounds were close, but several one-versus-ones all went the way of Spirit as donk and sh1ro took turns single-handedly demolishing the FlyQuest offense. The pair were super-confident in their duels with FlyQuest managing just two rounds and four bomb plants in the half. Spirit put them away immediately with the pistol and conversion.

FlyQuest was slightly more competitive on Nuke, leading on the CT side before Boris “magixx” Vorobyev kicked into gear. Spirit tied up at halftime then never looked back, winning seven of the next 10 rounds to move ahead in the group.

Donk wasn’t a fan of the break the team had leading into BLAST Rivals Spring. “I hate it, I want to play all tournaments,“donk said, adding that it was a team decision to take time off. “The team involves all five players. I’m fine with [the break], but to be honest I hate it — what can I do?”

FlyQuestdelighted the home crowd in Melbournewith a group stage win over Virtus.pro and a won map against NaVi, but against Spirit they simply couldn’t get started. Fresh off a flight from Australia and with no time to practice, this result was hardly a surprise.

They last met at theBLAST Bountyin January, and it was as one-sided as a game of CS2 gets. Spirit wiped out the Aussies 2-0 (13-3, 13-1) with donk (44 kills, 2.30 rating) utterly disintegrating FlyQuest. He landed more kills than three of the FlyQuest boys combined.

Spirit heads to the upper bracket final, and thus, the playoffs, with the win while FlyQuest fights for survival in the lower bracket group B match tomorrow.
