Sports Interactive has announced thatFootball Manager 25will launch on November 26 on console and mobile. The developers claim thatFM25represents the biggest step up in visuals and gameplay mechanics in a generation. The series has long been hit with criticism of its match engine, with unrealistic footage hindering the enjoyment of some players. As well as improvements to the matchday engine, Sports Interactive has also promised improved and more immersive tactics management.

At the same time as announcing the release date, SI has also published itsFM25roadmap which includes details of further announcements. As of now, details of the upgrade are quite sparse but, according to the roadmap, we can expect news of the addition of women’s football in a week or two. This will be followed by updates on the new interface, tactics, match interface, and manager features.

SI has also said thatFM25 Touch, which will be available on Nintendo Switch and other touchscreen devices, will launch in the weeks after the full release.

Football Manager was originally released under the nameChampionship Managerin 1992. Following Sports Interactive’s break up with partner Eidos Interactive, SI retained the rights to the game engine but lost the naming rights. In 2004, with the company’s new partnership with Sega, the game rebranded asFootball Manager.

FM24, the most recent version of the game, received an aggregated critic rating of 84 but its user review rating was lower, at 7.0 out of 10. It was criticized by players for offering very few upgrades over previous titles as well as for what were perceived to be match engine glitches.
