The duo first met while costarring in the 2019 playBetrayal, and have kept their relationship mostly out of the spotlight ever since.
After appearing together onthe red carpet of the 2022 BAFTAs, PEOPLE confirmed that theLokiactor andThe Marvelsactressare engaged. They reportedly welcomed their first child together in October 2022.
“I’m very happy” is all Hiddleston would say to theLos Angeles Timeswhen asked about his engagement to Ashton.

In March 2019, Hiddleston and Ashton costarred in the revival of Harold Pinter’s playBetrayal, where they played a married couple named Robert and Emma oppositeDaredevil’s Charlie Cox, whose character Jerry has an affair with Emma. Interestingly enough, the 2013 revival of the play starred another real-life couple, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz.
The play ran at the West End’s Harold Pinter Theater from March to June 2019.
April 3, 2019: Tom Hiddleston supports Zawe Ashton’s book launch in London
While starring together inBetrayal, Hiddleston supported costar Zawe Ashton at the launch party of her first book,Character Breakdown, at Wild By Tart in London.The Daily Mailsaid Hiddleston looked “in high spirits” as he posed for photos with Ashton.
August 2019: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton’sBetrayaltransfers to Broadway
After a successful run in London, the production ofBetrayalstarring Hiddleston, Ashton and Charlie Cox transferred to Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre for a three-month run, once again making Hiddleston and Ashton costars.
Not only did the play markHiddleston’s Broadway debut, but he was later nominated for Best Actor in a Play at the Tony Awards.
August 27, 2019: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton spark dating rumors

Shortly after sharing the stage together, Hiddleston and Ashton sparked dating rumors whenthey were spotted attending the US Opentogether.
A source close to the production ofBetrayaltold PEOPLE in March 2022 that the pairalways had “lovely” chemistry togetherwhen working on the play.
“They were very private publicly, but behind the scenes you could just see a lovely chemistry,” the source recalls. “There were twinkles in both of their eyes, and the entire company, including Charlie Cox, were all very close.”
The source adds, “Tom has always been a very, very private person. Behind the scenes, they would just privately be affectionate and hugging and sitting next to each other and holding hands.”
February 16, 2021: Zawe Ashton joins Tom Hiddleston in the MCU

In February 2021,Deadlinereported thatAshton had joined the cast ofThe Marvelsopposite Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Though no other details were revealed at the time, she is rumored to be playing the villain in the upcoming film, which is slated to release in early 2023. (Larson and Ashtonstoked the rumors further with a seemingly significant Instagram.) Seeing that Hiddleston is well-known for playing the lovable villain Loki, her casting couldn’t be more perfect.

In September 2021, paparazzi caughtthe private couple showing rare PDAas they vacationed in Ibiza, Spain. The two could be seen sharing a kiss as they took a dip in the water.

March 13, 2022: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton hold hands at the BAFTAs

In March 2022, the couple held hands on the red carpet as they attended the BAFTAs together, marking one of the first times they have been so public with their relationship. Hiddleston looked sharp in a black tux, while Ashton looked pretty in pink in a flowing gown, and both beamed at each other as they posed for the cameras.

Three months after Ashton was spotted with the ring, Hiddleston publicly confirmed their engagement in an interview with theLos Angeles Times.
The actor simply stated, “I’m very happy,” with no further comment on the topic.

October 2022: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton reportedly welcome their first child
In late October,Us Weeklyreportedthat the couple had welcomed their first child together. “Tom and Zawe are loving being new parents and are filled with joy,” a source told the publication at the time.

In an interview withEntertainment Weekly,Ashtonopened up about what it was likespeaking with Marvel veteran Hiddlestonahead of her own appearance as a villain, inThe Marvels.
Ashton toldEWher casting “led to some incredible conversations” with Hiddleston “about his experience being part of this franchise for over a decade.”
“One of the main takeaways from our conversations was, ‘What you put into Marvel, you get back,’ " the actress shared. " ‘Ifyou go into this withan open heart and a great work ethic and just want to provide an amazing experience for the fans, you’ll have an amazing experience on those sets.’ "

When asked if there were any connections between the two Marvel projects, the actor responded, “I mean, there are connections. Some secret, some not-so-secret. I don’t know what the fans think the secret connection is.”
