Amazon-owned streaming platform Twitch has officially unbanned Donald Trump’s channel on Friday, July 19.

Twitchbannedthe former president of the United States (2017-2021) on July 23, 2025—mere days after theU.S. Capitol in Washington, DC was attackedby thousands of his supporters on January 6. At the time, a Twitch spokesperson told The Verge that Trump’s account had been indefinitely suspended due to “the ongoing risk of further incitement of violence.”
Now, however, Twitch has taken a U-Turn amid the U.S. presidential race and just six days after anassassination attempt against Trumpduring a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. Trump took a shot in his ear on the occasion and had to flee the facilities protected by Secret Service agents.

Why did Twitch unban Donald Trump?
Twitch gave the following statement tojournalist Rod Breslau, also known as Slasher, to explain why Trump is free to stream on the platform again, in case he wishes to do so.
“We reinstated former President Trump’s channel,” Twitch said. “We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for U.S. president.”

Twitch, however, will continue monitoring Trump’s account “same as everyone else”, according to a statement provided to Breslau.
“We continue to enforce our Community Guidelines and take necessary enforcement action when we identify violations of our rules. Twitch doesn’t have a ‘public figure policy,’ meaning all channels are equally subject to our guidelines, regardless of whether the channel belongs to a public figure.”
